Dr Saira Vasdev’s post-summer skin care tips

Revive dry, pigmented and lacklustre skin

With the weather starting to change as we move into the autumn season, you may notice the condition of your skin changing too. Where the summer was all about combating sweat, excess oil and shine, the cooler weather and use of central heating can cause the skin to feel dry and lacklustre. Now is the time to revamp your skin care regime with my post-summer skin care tips and consider certain skin rejuvenation treatments to keep your skin looking healthy and vibrant as we move into the winter months.

Post-holiday hydration is essential for rebalancing the skin. Flying and prolonged exposure to heat and the sun can cause the skin to appear dull and dry. A post-holiday HydraFacial is perfect for restoring essential hydration and brightening up sun-damaged skin.

To enhance results at home, opt for a humectant based moisturiser for more effective and long-lasting hydration. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are key ingredients to look for in your hydrator as they bind water molecules into the skin. We recommend HealGel Face as its triple phase hyaluronic acid complex provides and instant firming and plumping effect, and has additional anti-ageing benefits.

As the days grow colder, it’s also time to crank up the central heating. The skin struggles with constant changes in temperature and one area most vulnerable to damage is the delicate tissues in the lip. Combat dry and cracked lips with the latest addition to our product range…SkinCeuticals AOX Lip Complex. It combines hyaluronic acid with antioxidants to restore smoothness and hydration to damaged lips and protects against free radical damage which accelerates premature ageing of the lips. It is also ideal for use following injectable lip enhancements as it works synergistically to enhance results even further by improving the texture and volume of the lip.

If you suffer with pigmentation or textural irregularities of the skin, now is the time you can start to be more aggressive with your skin care regime and treatments. If you have had a summer break from your Retinol to avoid sensitivity to the sun, now may be the time to slowly reintroduce it to your night time regime if clinically indicated. Exfoliation is also key to brightening the skin and improving its texture during the post summer period. Alpha Hydroxyacids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxyacids (BHAs) such as glycolic and salicylic acids are important for encouraging new skin cell formation. Book in for a consultation review at Waterhouse Young and we can perform a computerised skin analysis and recommend suitable products and a bespoke treatment plan tailored to you and your concerns. From treating photodamaged skin withFractional Skin Resurfacing (FSR) or a VI Peel, to acne scarring with combined Radiofrequency Microneedling – now is a more appropriate time to undergo certain rejuvenation treatments as the risk of complications such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is lower due to reduced sun exposure.
