The latest on radiofrequency microneedling technology

What is radiofrequency microneedling?

Microneedling with radiofrequency is a minimally invasive treatment to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scarring and skin laxity. The addition of radiofrequency energy to the microneedling procedure helps to further stimulate the body’s natural collagen and healing processes, revealing firmer, rejuvenated skin.

There are many treatments on offer which use this technology. In this blog post, we look at two of the most popular – Morpheus8 and EndyMed Intensif.

What is Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 has famously been tried by Amanda Holden and Judy Murray. However, is celebrity endorsement a reason to try it yourself?

Morpheus8 combines radiofrequency with microneedling. Both stimulate collagen in slightly different ways. The tiny needles create microtrauma in the skin, stimulating the healing response. Radiofrequency uses heat to tighten the skin. The procedure can be used on the face, neck and body for skin tightening and contouring.

Morpheus8 is the name of the device, developed by InMode, the highly regarded medical technology provider. It was launched in 2019, with a handpiece for the body released in August 2020. It’s gained popularity in the UK during lockdown as people seek improvements to their ‘Zoom face’ (you can read our blog on the subject here). Celebrity fans including Kim Kardashian and Olivia Attwood have helped to accelerate its UK profile.

Patients can expect mild discomfort during the procedure, and it can be particularly painful on bony areas such as the forehead. There is little downtime, but redness should be expected for up to 24 hours.

What is EndyMed Intensif?

EndyMed Intensif also provides radiofrequency with microneedling, and is a procedure using the EndyMed platform.

The EndyMedPro is an all-in-one treatment platform that is ideal for brightening skin, reducing hyperpigmentation, improving skin texture, smoothing wrinkles and treating acne scarring.

Much like Morpheus8, EndyMed’s 3DEEP uses the most advanced radiofrequency technology to deliver a range of face and body treatments. The high-tech device allows heat to penetrate deep into the dermal layers of the skin, creating an immediate tightening effect and stimulating new collagen growth.

When combined with Intensif, radiofrequency is delivered deep into the skin using gold-plated needles. This triggers a regenerative response in the skin and stimulates the production of new collagen. The unique gold-plated tapered needles require less passes per treatment, for shorter treatment times and greater patient comfort.

EndyMed Intensif tackles lines and wrinkles, tightens and lifts the skin, and improves vitality and radiance. We find it’s a great solution for treating pores, acne scars, stretchmarks, deep wrinkles and improving skin texture. It’s clinically proven and at Waterhouse Young, we see predictable and long-lasting results.

We particularly like the EndyMed 3DEEP platform as it allows us to combine treatments to tackle a variety of problem areas. Using EndyMed treatments in combination gives us the flexibility to create a skin tightening and brightening treatment plan that is perfectly tailored to your unique needs.

EndyMed treatments have little to no downtime and provide long-lasting results.

Why do we offer EndyMed Intensif at Waterhouse Young?

EndyMed are specialists in radiofrequency energy and were in fact one of the first companies to offer advanced microneedling technology. The 3DEEP and Intensif technologies are doctor-created and led. We’ve been using this platform at Waterhouse Young for over 8 years.

We find that many radiofrequency microneedling devices rely more on the needling than the heat: their needles are coated so the energy delivered is limited. The EndyMed Intensif device uses uncoated gold-plated needles, which are of superior quality and give more targeted intensive heating. This means less passes are required, giving a more comfortable experience for our patients.

Our EndyMed Intensif treatment uses micro-needles as a delivery mechanism, not as the main part of the treatment (meaning needling is limited). Most radiofrequency devices deliver energy with the needle, which makes the heating limited (fractional). The Endymed 3DEEP platform uses fractionated pulse mode to widen the reach of the heating, leading to better and more uniform results, on all skin types.

Here’s Waterhouse Young’s Managing Director Anna with her views on the EndyMed Intensif procedure:

“EndyMed radiofrequency skin tightening has remained one of the most popular treatment options in our clinic. Many of our patients have progressed to using the Intensif platform, which combines microneedling with radiofrequency to target more advanced skin ageing concerns.

“Endymed Intensif is very safe and provides us with predictable and impressive results. For us, EndyMed is the foundation to many treatment plans and is integral in achieving skin health. We would not be without it.”

How do I know what’s right for me?

Whether you have a specific treatment in mind or are still in the research phase, we’d suggest that you book a consultation to meet one of our doctors to ensure the most effective treatments are made available to you.

At your initial consultation, we’ll discuss your skin goals and, as part of this, will perform a Visia skin analysis. This computerised assessment allows us to examine beneath the superficial layers of your skin – what the eye is unable to see – and in doing so we can scope not only corrective, restorative treatment plans, but preventative ones too.

From here we take into account a number of important factors when creating a bespoke treatment recommendation – these include skin type, condition, lifestyle, potential wellness goals and, of course, your availability.
